Competitive indoor hockey in England to become 5-a-side
indoor03.jpgCompetitive indoor hockey in England to become 5-a-side
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) recently made a decision to implement a number of changes to Indoor Hockey that will come into force on 1 September 2013.
The most significant of the modifications will reduce the number of players on the field of play from six to five per team to create ‘Hockey5s’. The decision was made in line with the FIH’s strategic vision to enhance rules and formats to maintain hockey’s position as one of the most progressive sports on the Olympic Programme. The move is aimed at creating more space on the field of play, ensuring a more exciting spectacle for spectators and television audiences. A critical factor in the decision-making process of the FIH Executive Board was the desire to align Indoor Hockey to a future standardized Hockey5s format of the game.
