YYHL - Boys U10 League Week 6 (4) - 22 March 2015
Date Added: Friday 11 March 2015
Driffield HC have been working hard at encouraging new young faces into their U10 boys group and would like to give the boys a taste of YYHL Hockey ready for next season.

The Under 11 Mixed League is going to run again this year through the Summer;  Bob Maltby  is preparing information to be sent out to U12/U10 Boys & Girls Coaches about the plans for this Summer.

YYHL - Girls U14 League Week 6 (3) - 22 March 2015
Date Added: Friday 10 March 2015
As you will note below, Bev Longthorne has come up with a sound idea that will make travelling a little easier for teams in Divisions  2 & 7 as a result of the changed venue from Doncaster to Huntington.
Division 2 moves to play at Huntington School, York.  Thirsk A & B, York &  Sheffield A
Division 7 moves to play at Leeds Grammar School (GSAL) Leeds Adel B, Huddersfield Dragons B, Driffield B, Sheffield B
Adjusted Order of Play ... Version 3 ... attached with readjusted Pitch Organisers to cope with this change.
Sheffield could be regarded as a Club to lose out but Sheffield A & B are both Div 2 & Div 7 so as a Club won't lose out but Team A now have the longer journey.
The main loser I'm afraid is Driffield who do have longer journey.
Everyone else in Divs 2 & 7 gains as result of this swap.
I hope this meets with the approval of all teams who are affected.

Great to have Doncaster B join Pitch D/Divsion 4 for the final U10 Boys session.

This is an afternoon session 1.30 - 4.30pm

YYHL - Girls U14 League Week 6 - 22 March 2015
Date Added: Tuesday 24 February 2015
Strange YYHL day last Sunday 22nd February!!!
Doncaster (Div 1) was called off due to frost .... all the other pitches played successfully.
No demotion or promotion - out or into Div 1 as a result.
Div 4  resulted in some interesting outcomes!!!!! ..... An OWN GOAL was awarded despite the Own Goal rule being withdrawn at the start of the season. The result stands as Umpires are always right but does ask the question of Umpires keeping up to date with current Rules.
Div 4 had the top two teams and bottom two teams tied on points & goal difference, we have had to use most goals scored as the differentiating factor to decide who is promoted & demoted.
Div 4 also raised queries on photography and videoing young players without previously gaining permission. The YYHL has allowed this to happen in the past and raised no issues with parents/supporters wanting to record their sons /daughters enjoying playing hockey, but once an umpiring  decision is made we cannot/will not use video evidence to change a decision that may affect the result. The Umpire is in sole control of decision making during the game.
Download Schedule Here

Looking ahead

The U14 Play Off Finals are to take place on Sunday 29th March at Wakefield Hockey Club ....  the Boys in the morning 9.30 - 2.00 and the Girls 2.00 - 6.30. I think the clocks change this weekend so the Boys will have a hour less beauty sleep  to make the 9.30am start!!!
The top 8 teams at the end of play are invited to the Play Off Finals. That means 4 teams from Division 1 + the top 3 teams in Division 2 + the top team in Division3 will be invited.
Please make sure Results are entered on the website promptly so we all know who is attending.
Please  plan ahead ...... if a teams is unable to attend then we need to know ASAP so another side can be invited.
I hope the YHUA will be able to appoint Umpires to the U14 Play Offs ...if not attending teams will need to bring an Umpire with them. More info nearer the date.
WHC are planning on providing refreshments etc., as part of the day again I will get confirmation of what they expect to provide so Teams/Spectators etc., can come prepared.
Cheers Phil.

YYHL - Girls U10 League Week 6 - 22 March 2015
Date Added: Monday 23 February 2015
I will make sure the Trophies and Certificates for the Winners & Runners Up of Division 1 ...  the League Champions & Runners Up will be at Leeds Univ. for presentation at the end of play, though I will be at the U16 Play Off Finals at Halifax HC.
Any team not able to attend please let me know as soon as you are aware that you cannot raise a Team ... we now have 3 teams keen to take part in the Final session of the season   ...   Harrogate D, Driffield B and Sheffield B. I'm sure they will jump at the chance to take your place.
22nd March is also the final session for the U10 Boys who are at Leeds Univ. from 1.30 - 4.30 which will put some pressure on car parking,  so can I encourage teams who have finished their games to depart fairly quickly so that the Boys can get in to the parking area.
Finally we plan to run the U11 Mixed League through the Summer again this year and Bob Maltby will be drafting something soon to be sent out to Contacts so you can  indicate your interest in taking part.

Note there are some changes of venues used for this session ......
Brigshaw College instead of the usual Harrogate HC and Halifax HC instead of Leeds Grammar School.
The U16 Girls are also playing on 8th March and they are at Pocklington, Leeds GS, Harrogate HC, Leeds Adel HC & Huntington.
Top 8 teams at the end of play on 8th March to be invited to the U14 Play Off Finals at WAKEFIELD HC on 29th March.

YYHL - Girls U16 League Week 6 - 8 March 2015
Date Added: Monday 23 February 2015
Girls U16 League Week 6 - 8 March 2015
Please note:
  1. Divisions 3 & 4 at Brigshaw and one pitch at Leeds Grammar School did not play on 8th February due to frozen pitches, so these two Divisions have not changed. We have occasionally operated last in first out in the past but feel this would not be appropriate in this case. The 8 teams that have not been moved are highlighted on the Order of Play.
  2. Leeds Adel B has withdrawn. Everyone below them in the League has moved up one position creating a 3 team Division 7 for the final session.
  3. Note that we are not using Brigshaw College& Darton College for Week 6 ...Pocklington School double pitch facility is being used instead.
  4. The Play Off Finals are at Halifax Hockey Club on Sunday 22nd March.... Girls (.30 - 2.00pm. The top 8 teams at the end of play on 8th March will be invited to attend.

YYHL - Boys U12 League Week 6 - 1 March 2015
Date Added: Monday 23 February 2015
I will make sure the Trophies & Certificates to be presented to the Winners & Runners Up on Pitch A  / Division 1..... League Champions & Runners Up ......  will be at Leeds Univ by the end of the afternoon session.
Thank you to the many coaches for your feedback on the last session of the U12 Boys on 8th February that raised a number of issues to be addressed and suggested some excellent solutions.
One issue that will go a long way to ease issues is for the Coaches & Umpires to meet before play starts to confirm umpiring arrangements ... neutral umpiring or umpire your own games ... and to establish in each Division how strict the rules will be observed, & if Young Umpires / Inexperienced Umpires are Officiating they are given encouragement & support by Coaches and Spectators.
The higher the Division the more strict I would expect the Umpiring to be, and advantage to be played & if necessary brought back for an infringement if no advantage is gained.
Good Hockey Umpiring practice.
The efforts made by the U12 Girls Coaches, its taken time to achieve,  to keep parents off the playing surface & outside the fenced area, keeping tents & canopies outside this area as well, plus the communication before the start of play between Coaches & Umpires,  and the positive encouragement given to players,  I hope will be used  by the U12 Boys in the afternoon and help straighten out some problems that have been experienced.
HAVE GREAT AFTERNOON  OF HOCKEY.

Umpires at YYHL Play-Off Finals
Date Added: Thursday 19 February 2015
This years Youth Hockey League Play Off Finals have been confirmed for Sunday 22nd & 29th March.
Having been in touch with the Clubs with ambitions to attend the Play Offs  they have all kept these dates free so that the Young players can concentrate on the Play Off Finals.
U16 Boys & Girls Play Offs will be at HALIFAX HOCKEY CLUB/Park Lane High School on Sunday 22nd March.... Girls 9.30am - 2.00pm and Boys 2.00pm -6.30pm
U14 Boys & Girls Play Offs will be at WAKEFIELD HOCKEY CLUB on Sunday 29th March .... Boys 9.30am - 200pm and Girls 2.00pm - 6.30pm

I do hope that the Yorkshire Hockey Umpires Association can once again support YOUTH HOCKEY in YORKSHIRE and provide Umpiring Teams for the Play Off Finals.
However I feel sure that there will be League rearrangements planned for these dates taking Umpires to other commitments. I just need to know so that if necessary I can ask each team to bring am umpire with them.
I look forward to support from the YHUA once again.
Cheers Phil.

In2Hockey 7-a-side Rules
Date Added: Thursday 19 February 2015
It has been suggested that the IN2HOCKEY RULES should be circulated for the benefit of ALL .... Coaches, Umpires, Players & Parents.
Should help parents in encouraging their offspring both pitch side and in the car travelling to games, give Umpires the confidence to blow, signal and advise on the decision they have given, and help coaches with their development of young players.
Click here to download the In2Hockey 7-a-side Rules

YYHL - Boys U16 League Week 5 (1) - 1 February 2015
Date Added: Saturday 24 January 2015
Boys Under-16 Order of Play for Week 5 : 1st February
Slazengers HC Contact has confirmed that they will be able to raise a team for Weeks 5 & 6 so we welcome them back to the League.
Divisions 1 & 2 are as "normal" but Div 3 at Pocklington now becomes a Div 3 of 4 teams and a Div 4 of 3 teams. Making 7 teams.
A 7 team all play all session is a non starter.
If any team(s) in Divs 3 & 4  cannot attend then the 6, 5, 4 team Orders of Play on page 2 can be used.
Reminder....
In Div 1 the U16 Boys League Winners & Runners Up will be decided at the end of play in Week 5.
Ben Rhydding & City of York will not be attending Week 6 as they are at the North EH Cup Finals but they will be included in the 8 teams for the Play Off Finals when we get confirmation of venue and date.
Rearranged Senior League games will influence Venue & Date of the Play Offs.
At End of Play on Week 6 should allow me to put the teams who played that day into merit order and invite the top 6 to join BRHC & CoYHC at the Play Offs.
That should be .....  BRHC + CoYHC + the four teams in Div 1 on Week 6 + top 2 teams in Div 2. at the end of play.
Hope that makes sense to everyone.

Cheers Phil

EH CUP - U16 & U14 Boys & Girls
Date Added: Wednesday 6 January 2015
Two issues have come up that we need to think about for the future ..... no need for a quick decision so suggest we make a decision at the end of season Annual Meeting,  if we haven't made a decison before then.
1. Penalty Strokes or Penalty Shoot Out???
Suggest that we stick with Penalty Strokes for the Yorkshire EH Cup Finals coming up soon but that we check before the North & National Finals which system they plan to use so that successful teams can prepare appropriately.
We also need to give this some thought before the YYHL PLay Off Finals so that teams can coach a new system if necessary.
2. Yorkshire round of the EH U16/14 Cup.
There has been some discussion about how we nominate the 2 or 3 Teams from Yorkshire to progress to the North Finals.
Currently we have 2 or 3 days of competition depending on the number of teams who enter the Cup Round in Yorkshire.
This eats into the number of dates available for other Youth Hockey Activity and contributes to the very tight Youth Activity Calendar.
The suggestion is to nominate the teams who are the top 2 or 3 in each League either at Christmas, or just prior to the date that team entries need to be with England Hockey.
The current YYHL system  we use, based around 4 teams at a venue, will be of considerable advantage in making this system work and will help create some additional dates to fit Youth Activities into the Calendar.
A decision is needed before we set about drwaing up next years Youth Activity List so that JDC/JAC dates plus YYHL dates + In2Hockey etc., can all be fitted into the Youth Programme.
Cheers Phil

YYHL - Girls U16 League Week 5 (1) - 8 February 2015
Date Added: Wednesday 6 January 2015
CONGRATULATIONS to Harrogate Hockey Club and the four teams Halifax 1, Northallerton 1, Leeds 1,  & Harrogate 2 who managed to play Hockey at Harrogate yesterday!!!
ALL the other 6 pitches, Ben Rhydding, Doncaster, Pocklington (2), Huntington, & Darton were CALLED OFF due to frost. That included Darton where the four teams in Div 1 .....Thirsk, Wakefield, Leeds Adel & Sheffield who all turned up,  as no one was able to get through to the Centre Contact Number to check on pitch condition,  only to find the pitch frozen hard and no chance of playing.  Waiting for a reply from Darton to explain the communication problems.
Now for the YYHL problem. What do we do for Week 5???
With only one pitch being played yesterday it seems the only option is to use the same Order of Play for Week 4 for Week 5.
No promotion or relegation and the two teams who were not attending to remain where they were.......
Unless anyone else has any really bright ideas.
Order of Play for Week 5... venues are slightly different and as a result of new venues some different Pitch Organisers too.

YYHL - Girls U10 League Week 5 (1) - 15 January 2015
Date Added: Wednesday 6 January 2015
A HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO ALL
I hope the email/message  to U10 Contacts arrived successfully yesterday and stopped journeys already started, or before they had begun, and no one turned up at Leeds University hoping to play Hockey.
Credit to Leeds University Reception Staff who contacted me at 8.30ish to confirm that the pitches were unfit for play ..... Usually I don't get a reply to my call to them before 8.45.
Excellent service provided yesterday.
It is the same Order of Play we would have used for Week 4 / yesterday if we had managed to play.
Download here
Cheers Phil

YYHL - Boys U16 League Week 4 (2) - 11 January 2015
Date Added: Wednesday 3 January 2015
The previous email (2) brought a number of replies (as I had expected / hoped for!!!) that suggest to me that the idea of Div 1 X 6 teams and Divs 2 & 3 X 4 teams was not appreciated.
We shall revert to the "normal" arrangement of Div 1 & 2 X 4 teams  and Div 3 X 6 teams at Pocklington School for Week 4 on 11 January.
(The amended Order of Play will be uploaded to the YHA Website once we have fixed an issue with the upload system but the online Boys Under-16 fixtures for Week 4 have been updated. Andy P)
Please communicate with each other by Wednesday 7th Jan to make sure you are going to the correct venue, have enough players & have umpires sorted + an order of play for the day.
Cheers Phil

YYHL - Boys U12 League Week 4 (2) - 18 January 2015
Date Added: Wednesday 18 December 2014
UPDATE
Order of Play for Week 4 (2) : 18th January for the U12 Boys
Apologies, Wrong tream promoted from Div 5 to Div 4.
Driffield should  be Team 3 in Div 5 and Doncaster should  be Team 5 in Div 4.
Adjusted Order of Play attached.
Bigger apologies to Andy Pettigrew who has already adjusted the website with the Week 4 Order of Play.
Download here

Order of Play for Week 4 (1): 18th January for the U12 Boys.
Thirsk B and Bradford B have withdrawn from the League making Division 5 / Pitch E at Leeds Adel HC a 4 Team Division.
In order to rebalance the Divisions and give players in the lower Divisions more on pitch time, two teams have been demoted as usual from Div. 4 to Div. 5 but only one team has been promoted from Div. 5 to Div. 4, making Divs 4 & 5 into 5 team Divisions.
Cheers Phil

YYHL U16 Girls: Week 4 (1) : 4 January
Date Added: Wednesday 18 December 2014
Order of Play for U16 Girls Week 4 : 4 January
Note the adjusted venues Pocklington School instead of Leeds Grammar School and Ben Rhydding HC instead of Brigshaw College.
Five (5) Teams did not attend the last session on 14th December .... VERY DISAPPOINTING   .....  all 5 have been demoted as the YYHL Rules indicate.

Cheers Phil

YYHL U16 Boys: Week 4 (1) : 11 January
Date Added: Wednesday 10 December 2014
As suggested previously I have adjusted the 6 team arrangement at Pocklington School to have the top 6 teams attending in January: we will have the middle 6 teams in February and the bottom 6 teams in March.
I hope this meets with everyone's approval  .....  no one commented on it when I originally suggested it. So assume that all are supportive.
Cheers Phil

YYHL U16 Girls: Week 3 (5) : 14th December Venue Change
Date Added: Wednesday 10 December 2014
Please note the confirmation of change of venue for Girls Under-16 Week 3 Division 4 for Sunday 14th December from Huntington School to Ben Rhydding HC.
In view of Peter's offer to start later if frost affects the playing surface can I suggest that as BRHC are one of the teams due to attend that you coordinate that decision between you and take appropriate action.
Apologies to all for this late change of arrangements.... Huntington School have had to cancel the booking due to staff shortages.
Any problems please let me know.
Cheers Phil

YYHL U16 Girls: Week 3 (4) : 14th December
Date Added: Tuesday 25 November 2014
APOLOGIES for yet another adjustment to the Order of Play for Week 3 : 14th December.
The Driffield v York game in Division 4 was not recorded on the website for some reason.
The result put Driffieold & Wakefield equal on points but Driffield had a better goal difference so should be promoted.
The amended Order of Play reflects this situation.

Cheers Phil

YYHL U16 Girls: Week 3 (3) : 14th December
Date Added: Tuesday 18 November 2014
Corrected/Adjusted Order of Play for Week 3:
City of York 1 promoted to Division 1 and Sheffield Hallam 1 return to Division 2.
Many thanks to Trisha Birch, CoYHC, for confirming that City of York 1 beat Harrogate 1 - 3-0 to achieve promotion.
ALSO
NEW TEAM to be added to the U16 Girls League making it now FULL.
7 single pitches X 4 teams = 28 teams.
Team 28 : Harrogate HC B / Harrogate 2 joins Division 7 a Leeds Grammar School (GSAL) on 14th December.
An Order of Play (3) that includes Harrogate 2 as Team 28:

YYHL U16 Girls: Week 3 (1) : 14th December
Date Added: Tuesday 18 November 2014
THANK YOU for getting all the scores recorded so quickly ....Girls beating the Boys by quite some margin at the moment in completing this task. WELL DONE.
Order of Play for Week 3 for 14th December: Download here
As usual I have tried to keep travel to a minimum, I hope I have succeeded.
Division 6 Teams - 21, 22, 23, 24,  and Division 7 Teams - 25, 26, 27 are all based at Leeds Grammar School. (seven(7) teams)
It is more likely that a team from the bottom end of the League will struggle to attend rather than a team from the top end,  so having a 7 team group at Leeds Grammar School means that if a team drops out the 6 team order of play,  or 2 teams drop out the 5 team Order of Play,  can be used. (Page 2 of the Document).
Obviously if all 7 teams turn up then a 4 team & 3 team competition can be played.
The 3 team session can be organised to play each other once for YYHL points and then play again for development & coaching.
The pitches are booked 10.00-1.00pm so use the time as you see fit.
Have also attached the latest version of the Girls Clubs Contact List, that has now been completed. Don't forget to communicate with each other about attending, borrowing players and Umpiring.
Finally..... U16 Girls Yorkshire Round of EH Cup Finals.
These seem to have become moveable feasts and we have had move the 3 Finals - U14 Boys & Girls & U16 Girls - around to fit them in once more.
U16/18 Schools Indoor takes place on 10th/11th January and Yorkshire has a Girls School Team taking part.
U16/18 Clubs Indoor takes place on 17th/18th January and we hope that both Boys & Girls Club Teams will qualify from Yorkshire.
This means we will now hold the Finals at Wakefield Hockey Club as follows:
11th January U14 Boys
18th January 14 Girls
25th January U16 Girls
Cheers Phil
YYHL U10 Girls: Week 3 (2a) : 7th December
Date Added: Tuesday 18 November 2014
APOLOGIES!!!
Yet another minor change to the U10 Girls Order of Play: Download here
The incorrect result issue was originally correct so Northallerton and Wakefield C return to their positions on the original Order of Play I sent out.
Thirsk C wish to remain in the League on Pitch E/Division 5,  but Wakefield D have withdrawn.
Ben Rhydding C stay on Pitch E/Division 5 and Harrogate D remain on the waiting list.
Cheers Phil

YYHL U16 Boys: Week 3 : 7th December
Date Added: Friday 14 November 2014
Order of Play for Week 3 : 7th December for the U16 Boys.
The Order of Play includes on page 2:  a 4 team, 5 team & 6 team order of play to cope with most eventualities that may arise.
Slazengers have withdrawn from the League making it a 14 Team League so have arranged the Divisions /Pitches as 2 X 4 and 1 X 6.  .... 2 single pitches and 1 double pitch.
Divisions 1 & 2 on the single pitches and Division 3 on the double pitch.
I suggest that in future sessions we adjust the team groupings so that the top 6 teams use the double pitch venue rather than the bottom 6 teams always having to use Pocklington and we vary the groupings as below for each session.
Week 4 : Div 1X6 teams (Double Pitch): Divs 2 & 3 X 4 teams single pitches
Week 5 : Div 1X4 teams(Single pitch: Div 2X6 teams (Double pitch): Div 3X4teams (Single pitch
Week6 : Div 1 & 2 X 4 teams (Single pitches):  Div 3 X 6 teams (Double Pitch)
Hope you think this will share the travelling around all Clubs.
Cheers Phil
YYHL U10 Girls Week 3 (2) - 7th December
Date Added: Friday 14 November 2014
It would appear that some results in Division 4 / Pitch D were entered incorrectly affecting the final positions of teams in that Division.
The adjusted Order of Play that moves Northallerton B on to Pitch C and demotes Wakefield  C to Pitch E is attached.
Someone at Thirsk HC I am sure sent me an email confirming their withdrawal of Thirsk C from the League (should have kept a copy!!!)  though now there appears to be some doubt and they are looking into the situation.
If Thirsk C are able to continue with 3 full teams then BHRHC C will return to first team in the reserve list.
Can I ask Wakefield HC to confirm their D team is ready, willing and able for future sessions so we do not have anymore adjustments to make!!!
Cheers Phil

YYHL U10 Girls Week 3 (1) - 7th December

Umpire support for EH Youth Cup (Yorkshire)
Date Added: Friday 14 November 2014
The EH Youth Cup U16/14 ... Yorkshire Round .....  is being completed in the New Year.
We hope that the YHUA will be able to help/support/Officiate at these Final Days of competition.
All Finals at Wakefield HC using both pitches.
Sunday 11th January   U16 Girls Finals
Sunday 18th January   U14 Girls Finals
Sunday 25th January   U14 Boys Finals
Each day will have the same format of competition .... below was last years programme ... this years times may be slightly different.
Times to be confirmed.
12.00/noon access and if we start at 12.15 we should be finished by 3.00.
12.15 Pitch 1 SF1 Winner League A v Runner Up League B :  Pitch 2  SF2 Winner League B v Runner Up League A
1.45   Pitch 1  Final Winner SF 1 v Winner SF 2: Pitch 2  3rd/4th Place Play Off. Loser SF 1 v Loser SF2
At U16 Boys & Girls the top two teams progress to the North/Regional Final on 1st March, whilst at U14 the top 3 teams progress to the North/Regional Final on 19th April.
The U16 Boys we completed in a 5 team round robin competition a few weeks ago with York & Ben Rhydding to  attend the Regional Finals with high hopes of progression to the National Finals.
Last years, and the previous years, Finals caused some "agro" due to disappointing umpire provision provided by the Clubs ... they were asked to umpire neutrally but provided inexperienced and not well qualified umpires.
Advice from Andy Pettigrew, who was one of the senior experienced Umpires present last year, was to make sure we had good, qualified and experienced Umpire support this year.
Do hope you can help.
Cheers Phil

YYHL U14 Boys Week 3 - 23rd November
Date Added: Thursday 13 November 2014
Note we have access to a double pitch for the rest of the season so will use a 6 team order of play for the bottom 6 teams.
Better than 2 X 3 teams at 2 single pitches..(See below & included in Order of Play)
Pocklington School: EH Cup 16th Nov & Week 3 / 23rd Nov only
When using Pocklington School if the session is Called Off due to dangerous playing conditions please make sure the Caterers are informed.

EH Cup
Round One : 16th November at Pocklington School & Leeds Grammar School
Pocklington School  has one set of floodlights on one pitch so the teams attending there need to stick to the programme to complete it before darkness has an impact.
The Girls had this problem last year and needed to book an extra pitch to complete the Round 1 competition.
You could of course play any games affected by poor light one after each other on the floodlit pitch.

Adjusted Order of Play attached.
Also attached the final completed version of the GIRLS CONTACT LIST!!!!!

YYHL - Boys U14 League Week 3 - Venue Adjustment
Date Added: Thursday 13 November 2014
Apologies to Teams in Divisions 3 and 4 for another change to the Order of Play for Week 3 : 23rd November.
It has been suggested to me that transport may be slightly improved if Division 3 were based at Doncaster HC  and Division 4 at Harrogate HC.
The adjusted Order of Play to reflect this change is attached.

YYHL - Dog Fouling
Date Added: Tuesday 11 November 2014
As you will note from the email below we have an issue about DOGS AT YYHL VENUES.
We have had a similar issue at Leeds University with U12 competition where the owners reaction was more mature and sensible, unlike the reaction outlined below.
The issue are parents ........ why is it always parents who cause the problems????  .... never the players or the Coaches  ...   always the parents.
Please stress to all parents that DOGS are not welcome at any venue we use under the YYHL programme.
If brought to a Venue they either are left in the car or exercised off site.

If we get a repeat of this sort of behaviour,  and lack of responsibility,  we may need to look seriously of asking the Club in question to leave the YYHL.

Cheers Phil

Subject: Dog Fouling
To: Phil Thomas

Hi Phil,
We've had a complaint about dogs coming onto the school ground again.
On Sunday 2nd Nov (YYHL U14's Girls), one of our coaches saw three dogs in the pitches and one of these dog fouled on the pitch and then the owner point blank refused to pick it up and got got quite aggressive and used abusive language.
Could you please remind spectators that dogs ARE NOT permitted on the grounds and dog fouling, aggression and abusive language is not tolerated.

YYHL - UMPIRES
Date Added: Tuesday 11 November 2014
Every year we get issues about UMPIRES at YYHL games, I think its about time we made a positive move to improve the situation and get decent regular officiating at YYHL sessions.
The last session for the U14 Girls was a good example of how not to do it.
Four teams at a venue with only 2 teams with a volunteer Umpire present: the other two teams appear to have been Coach less and Umpire less,  so the two Umpire volunteers had to whistle the full 3 hour session.
Just not good enough.
The Teams without an Umpire were well supported but no one was prepared to whistle and officiate at any of the games.
We all recognise the issues in entering a team in the YYHL:
  • Enough players????
  • Outfield Kit
  • Goalkeeper Kit
  • Funding …YYHL Entry Fees and other outgoings
  • Qualified Coach
  • First Aid provision… Qualification & First Aid kit.
  • Transport providers.
  • Codes of Conduct for Club, Players, Coaches, Parents etc.
  • Club Insurance Policy
I could go on having been there & done that for too many years.
All these aspects are included in the Clubs First Accreditation that most Yorkshire Clubs now hold,  so there should be no excuses.
In a effort to ensure a successful YYHL session each time we play Hockey the YYHL has asked Coaches to communicate with other by midweek prior to a YYHL session to confirm an Order of Play, are all teams going to attend the session, whether players need to be borrowed/loaned and Umpire support/provision.
In Under 12/10 Leagues the first named team in each Division should take this role on board.
In Under 16/14 Leagues the Pitch Organiser at each venue should be doing the communicating.
We are keen to encourage YOUNG UMPIRES and to that end Richard Skippings -email--email-    will advise Clubs on how to promote YUs and he has been known to attend YYHL sessions to directly mentor YUs pitch side.
The YYHL has an excellent reputation Locally & Nationally based on the team work and cooperation amongst the Clubs who want to make it work.
I think its time for renewed efforts to get YYHL UMPIRING SORTED.
Cheers Phil

Boys Under-12 Order of Play Week 3 - 14 December
YYHL Notes On Safety
Order of Play for Week 3 ; 14th December above. The latest version of the Boys Clubs Contact List was emailed to all teams to help with communication between Clubs to confirm attendance at sessions, whether players need to be loaned or borrowed, and umpiring arrangements.
Please talk to each other to confirm plans
REMINDER: Sessions at Leeds University are checked centrally on each day of Competition and if the pitches are unfit for play...frost/snow etc., .... then an email is sent to all Club Contacts of the age group in question usually by 8.45/9.00am.
Leeds Univ Reception Office opens at 8.45am.
Please make sure the email addresses provided on the List, to contact Coaches, can be read straight away, and if you are driving pass your phone/tablet etc.,  to someone else in the car to read any message sent.
It's only happened twice ... a team turned up at  a Ground that was cancelled having driven a considerable distance....... the reason was the smart phone indicated that a message had been received but it was not read until the driver arrived at the Ground.... on the second occasion the Coach did not switch his Phone ON when leaving the house!!!!
You wouldn't believe it.

Date Added: Thursday 23 October 2014
Girls Under-12 Order of Play Week 3 - 23 November
YYHL Notes On Safety
Order of Play for Week 3 of the U12 Girls attached plus the notes on SAFETY that was sent out recently.
Also attached the latest version of the Girls Clubs Contact List ...just 2 Clubs still to confirm their Team Contacts .......Thirsk & City of York.
Please use this list to make contact midweek to confirm plans for the Sunday ..... Are teams attending??? Do you need to lend/borrow players??? Umpiring arrangements.
SAFETY
The on pitch issues are in the hands of the Umpires, as they are in control of the games, so agree a policy before you start the session and stick to it.
Similarly the the off pitch / spectator issue needs addressing;  again Coaches supporting each other and cooperating will get the situation improved and a safer environment achieved.
If you no longer involved in the U12 Girls, or the YYHL in general, please advise so I can remove you from the Circulation List

YYHL - Boys U14 League Week 3 - 2 November 2014
Date Added: Thursday 23 October 2014
Boys Under-14 Order of Play Week 3 - 2 November
It’s been a tricky exercise to try to place groups of Teams at venues that give reasonable travel time & distance but with U14 Girls also playing on this date at 4 of the 6 venues the U14 boys would use, we Halifax HC and Pocklington School filling the spaces created for the U14 Boys.
The venues we (U14 Boys) are using are highlighted in RED in each column.
The two Clubs who did not attend are automatically demoted.
Two teams, who did play, have asked to be placed in a lower Division so that their players are not over awed by stronger teams, both are young and very inexperienced, this has lead to significant movement in Divisions 4, 5 & 6.
We now have two NO TEAMS with Ben Rhydding B’s withdrawal.
Bradford B may join us if they can put everything in place that needs to sorted to allow a Team to take part. If they do join they will be added to Division 6.
More info to follow if necessary.
The U14 Boys Yorkshire Round of the EH Cup takes place on 16th November at Pocklington School.
Both U16 Boys & Girls suffered from teams pulling out at the last minute that caused real headaches and organisational  problems.
I do not expect any Team to withdraw from the U14 Boys Cup.
Three (3) successful Teams from the U14 Boys & Girls Yorkshire Round will be invited to the Regional Final in April at a Venue to be decided.
This why the Finals Day on 25th January at Wakefield HC needs to find a 1, 2, 3,  4 Order by the end of play.
Pocklington School: The match day catering at Pocklington School is very well presented by a mobile catering wagon that has been appreciated and enjoyed by all who have used their services. Bacon Rolls & hot drinks come highly recommended.
Can I ask those teams who are playing at Pocklington,  both on the League Dates 2nd & 23rd Nov., &  Cup Date 16th Nov., to make sure that if the session is called off due to the weather that the caterers are informed so they too do not make an unnecessary journey.

YYHL - Boys U12 League Week 2 (3) - 26 October 2014 - Further Adjustment
Date Added: Tuesday 21 October 2014
Boys Under-12 Adjusted Order of Play Week 2 (3) - 26th October
Three teams have dropped out of Div 6 / Pitch F for Sundays U12 Boys session so I have adjusted the Order of Play and moved some teams up to create 2 X 6 team Divisions on Pitch D at Leeds Univ and Pitch E at Leeds Adel HC.
There will be no Pitch F this week.
I hope all other Divisions will be fully supported and if there are issues you make sure that teams in your Division are aware.
Cheers Phil

YYHL : SAFETY U12 Girls @ Leeds Univ & Leeds Adel
Date Added: Monday 20 October 2014
GU12 Safety at University of Leeds and Leeds Adel

Two safety issues cropped up at Sundays U12 Girls session at Leeds University & Leeds Adel HC that need to be resolved.
One is straight forward the other will take some solving and active support from Club Coaches to achieve success.
The first issue …..
At Leeds Adel on Sunday a very talented young lady showed the other girls in the Division what the future holds for them by way her ability,  her chip shots and chip passing at goal &  into the circle. The problem is that this ability at this age group will put her opponents at risk of severe injury because they are not experienced enough, or skilful enough, to cope with such an advanced technique.
Having consulted the YYHL Inner Circle our advice is that the Umpires, who have control of the game, should complement the young lady on her ability but explain to both her and her Team’s supporters that in the circumstances this skill should not used until opponents can cope with the situation. The Umpire should blow for dangerous play and allow play to continue with a free hit to the opposing Team
It may be that as the season progresses and the ability range of the players improves then this skill can be accepted as a part of the natural game of hockey but it is felt that this time is not now.
Can I ask for the cooperation of this young ladies Coach to explain the situation before the next YYHL session.
The second issue...
We need to think about how to engage parents, supporters  etc., about safety issues around the pitch.
Despite the coaches discussing beforehand, Coaches were unable to stop people camping into the perspex dugouts, with parents/players sat behind/adjacent to the unfenced goals, knocking up behind/alongside the pitches on the astro, cramped sidelines with parents etc.
This makes a stray ball even more likely to injure somebody - as well as being difficult to umpire as sightlines constantly blocked with people/feet/sticks/deckchairs!
It has been suggested that the only people allowed through the gates onto the actual pitch are players, subs, coaches & umpires. That there should be no knocking up on the pitches but outside the fencing,  and similarly all the paraphernalia that Teams seem to need these days is also kept outside the playing area. Spectators also watch from outside the fencing.
This will need a Firm, Strict Control and Guidance from Coaches and perhaps Umpires not starting games until this has been achieved.
Originally it was planned for plastic pipes to be laid across the playing surface to divide the top pitches at LU up into 3 pitches, giving a bigger playing area, keeping balls on the pitch it is being used,  and keeping spectators off the playing surface. Until we can achieve this the advice above will need to be implemented by ALL CLUBS participating.
MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Cheers Phil

EH CUP - Boys U16 - 19 October 2014
Date Added: Friday 17 October 2014
Hi All,
EH CUP YORKSHIRE ROUND - Boys Under-16 Order of Play - 19 October
Slazengers have withdrawn from the competition. This will make for a 3 Team and 2 Team Leagues  .... not a very suitable outcome.
In the circumstances we will use the 5 Team competition I drew up when Thirsk originally withdrew, See below & attached. Harrogate will take the berth taken by Slazengers in that Draw made after Thirsk withdrew.
The 2 successful teams at the end of competition on Sunday will progress to the North Finals, and the Finals day we had planned for 18th January  is now not required,  though the two successful teams may wish to use that date for a fine tuning competition.
Hope this meets with everyone's approval.
Slazengers will be included in the share of costs for pitch hire on Sunday.
Cheers Phil
YYHL - Girls U12 League Week 2 - 19 October 2014
Date Added: Monday 13 October 2014
Hi All,

Thirsk D Team in Div 6 / Pitch G will not be attending on Sunday ... this now makes it a 5 team Division. Thirsk D team games have alredy been recorded as p-p on the YHA Website.
Can I ask all teams to take their FULL ORDER OF PLAY with them so that if other teams do not attend you can adjust the playing order a little easier.
Don't forget ... first named team to contact the other Teams in the Division by Wednesday  to confirm attendance, umpiring arrangements and whether players need to be borrowed.

Cheers
Phil

YYHL - Boys U12 League Week 2 - 26 October 2014
Date Added: Monday 13 October 2014
Hi ALL

Boys Under-12 Order of Play
Week 2 (2) - 26th October
Correction made to the Order of Play.
Wrong team demoted ......  now corrected on above Order of Play.
Pitch D  Wakefield B remain on Pitch D as Team 3 .....  whilst Doncaster A are on Pitch E as Team 2.

++++++++++++++
First an apology for the confusion I created in Week 1 ....
The date and time of competition at the top of the hard copy/attachment were correct but I failed to adjust the start times in the Order of Play lower down the page which created some interesting queries!!!! Being without internet access did not help matters.

The old hands took it all their stride, it appears it was the new faces who were a little confused as a result.  Must make sure I get it right for the Weeks 5 & 6 when the same system will happen again.

New teams are coming forward in other U12/10 Leagues .......  the Boys U12 League has space for 4 teams ...... any offers????

Website recording of Results:
Can I ask teams to record P-P for any games where one team does not turn up ... a slight change from the current  3-0 to the attending team.
Do not use the 3-0 system in future please.
This is to help spot the non attending team more easily,  to make Website Management a bit easier, and get more consistent recording of results.

MAIL TO LIST:  Please let me know if you wish your email address to be removed from the YYHL Mailing List. The Club Contact Lists are still not complete as some Clubs have not confirmed their Contacts yet so there are still some of last years Contacts included in the communication.

Many Thanks  for your help.

Cheers

U16 Boys EH Cup (Yorkshire Round) - Re-Adjusted Draw
Date Added: Monday 13 October 2014
Hi All,

EH Boys Under-16 Cup Amended Draw (2) for 19 October
Harrogate HC have asked to join the U16 Boys EH Cup Competition and this takes the teams back to 6 (SIX) wanting to take part.
It's back to the original Draw with Harrogate HC taking on the games that were originally allocated to Thirsk HC.
The Final & Runners Up Final due to be at Wakefield HC on 18th January is still planned for 18th January but there is problem with pitch availability at Wakefield HC that is likely to mean the use of another double pitch venue.
More info when I get confirmation.

Cheers
Phil
YYHL - DOGS at University of Leeds
Date Added: Friday 10 October 2014
HI ALL,
Please note the DOGS issue
at the recent U12 Boys & Girls sessions at Leeds University that was highlighted to me by Gawaine Hogg's email.
I have asked for cooperation from Clubs and Coaches previously to make sure that DOGS ARE NOT TAKEN ONTO THE LEEDS UNIVERSITY PLAYING FIELDS SITE at WEETWOOD, they have high Health & Safety issues and we do not want to be asked to move to another venue.
Please stress this to your parents /transport providers/spectators and cooperate with this request.

Many Thanks
Phil.
YYHL - Boys U10 New Order of Play
Date Added: Friday 10 October 2014
Hi All,
I knew I would open Pandora's Box by accommodating Chapeltown's request to play at a lower level.
Jayne (Harrogate HC) has reminded me of her earlier request made whilst I was away and did nothing about it for the reason outlined below.
I should have stuck with that decision in dealing with Chapeltown..

The position of teams in each Division is based on where teams finished at the end of last season with new teams being added to the lowest Division.
I am pretty sure that all teams will feel much like Harrogate, unsure of potential, ability and resilience in competition in first week of the League. That is what the YYHL is all about, the chance to test yourself in team environment and grow to a higher level as the weeks go by.

I suggest that we do not make any further adjustments to the Order of Play and teams will quickly find their own level and make progress from there.

Finally: I expect all teams to turn up on Sunday but if anyone does not turn up ... they do not attend ..... can ask that results involving those teams are recorded as P - P rather than the 3 - 0 we have used previously.
Will help spot non attenders more easily so they can be approached to check on future involvement.

Many thanks.

Cheers
Phil.

U10 Girls Order of Play for Week 2 of the League.
Girls Under-10 Week 2 Order of Play: 9 November
Reminder that games where one team does not turn up should be recorded as P - P on the Website.  Do not use the previous 3 - 0 scoreline.

Yorkshire Youth Hockey Leagues - Boys U10 League Week 1 (2) Team Amendment
Date Added: Friday 10 October 2014
Hi All,
Adjusted Order of Play to accommodate Rachel Gillott's request (Chapeltown HC) below to move their team to a level more suitable to their ability.
Boys Under-10 Week 1 (2) Updated Order of Play: 12 October

Chapeltown move to Pitch C / Div 3 from Pitch A / Div 1:
York A move from Pitch B / Div 2 to Pitch A / Div1:
All teams on Pitch B / Div 2 move up one place:
York C move from Pitch C / Div 3 to Pitch B / Div 2

Hope this does not cause any inconvenience and will give players a more even level of competition.
Andy Pettigrew: Apologies for creating more work.....PLEASE adjust the website to accommodate these changes.
THANK YOU.

Cheers
Phil.
Boys Under-16 Teams Entered in Yorkshire Round of EH Cup
Date Added: Friday 3 October 2014
Hi All,
Thinking through the EH Cup Draw and the outcome.
I suggest that the top two teams at the end of competition on 19th October are the two teams that go forward to the next Round ...North Finals  rather than reduce 5 teams to 4 teams and then have another day of competition on 18th January. for those 4 teams.

Reduces expenses, get the competition out of the way in hopefully better weather, and frees a Sunday from Youth Hockey Commitments.
18th Jan could be used for a game between the two successful teams to sharpen up ready for the North Final at one of the Clubs home pitch.
Hope this meets with your approval.

Cheers
Phil
YYHL - Boys U16 Leagues & EH Cup Draw 2014-15
Date Added: Friday 3 October 2014
Hi All,
Week 1 safely negotiated with some minor hiccups ... now for Week 2.
If you are no longer involved in U16 Boys Hockey please advise so I can remove  you from the "mail to" list.

Boys Under-16 Week 2 (1) Order of Play: 9th November
Adjusted EH Cup Draw for Sunday 19th October

EH CUP DRAW: 19th October
Thirsk HC have withdrawn from the Cup competition making it a 5 team Round Robin event.
The Adjusted Draw is attached.
It is the same format as we are using for the U14 Boys Cup Draw that has 10 teams participating.
Not ideal ...it  does have some teams playing back to back games, and others playing 4 games on the trot, at least there are lengthy breaks between games ...... but it is the best we can do in the circumstances.
A chance to use big squads and regularly ring the changes.
Any more drop outs please advise PROMPTLY.

WEEK 2 U16 Boys: 9th November

Leeds/Leeds Adel HCs have withdrawn from this League but Harrogate B have joined in their place so we are still a 15 team League.  Room for one more????
Congratulations to Driffield & Airedale for their excellent attitude in Week 1.
They were the only two teams at Darton College but they had a great morning of Hockey judging by the feedback received. (Leeds Withdrew/Slazengers unable to attend)

Cheers
Phil.
PS: If you are no longer involved in U16 Boys Hockey please advise so I can remove  you from the "mail to" list.
YYHL - Girls U10 Leagues 2014-15
Date Added: Wednesday 2 October 2014 - To: YYHL Main Girls U10 Contacts
Hi All,
Slight adjustment to the U10 Girls Order of Play for Sunday ...5th October.
It affects Division 5/Pitch E only.
The team that asked to be removed has now asked to remain in the League, and Selby B also asked to join and will be Team 6 in  and now makes the U10 Girls FULL.  5 Divisions of 6 Teams.

If more teams ask to join we will need to book an additional pitch ...probably Leeds Adel HC .... but need at least 3/4 teams to make this work.
Click here for the Adjusted Order of Play for this Sunday.
Finally if you are no longer involved in YYHL U10 Girls Hockey please let me know so I can remove your contact details from the Group List.

Cheers

CONSTITUTION/LEAGUE RULES:
The Governing Body has taken Legal & Financial advice about the issue of VAT and payment to Coaches etc., within the Single System, and the voluntary bodies that oversee Hockey to ensure that HMRC are put at ease about our Finances.
It is recommended that the following statements are added to the YYHL Constitution/Rules to follow these guidelines….

The Group is a non profit making body and is solely in place to encourage and develop young hockey players.
Any accrued surpluses shall be used to further the Groups Aims & Objectives.
No surplus will be distributed other than to another non-profit making body.

This will need your approval on Monday.

Looking forward to seeing old and new friends & hockey enthusiasts plus putting names to faces on Monday.

Cheers
