The next Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir Concert on Saturday 15 November, 7.30pm, in Wakefield Cathedral, is dedicated to the memory of Richard Haigh.

As was said in tribute at his funeral and at the Cathedral service celebrating his life, he was a towering figure in both our organisations and we therefore believe it is fitting that we dedicate an entire concert to his memory and to notify you so that, if appropriate, members of the club who may wish do so, may acquire tickets and attend.

The first half of the concert has been enhanced to include music which had a specific significance to Richard, such as Parry’s magnificent ‘I was Glad’ and Copland’s ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’. These will feature the choir and a full symphony orchestra giving them maximum gravitas, which would have thrilled Richard thoroughly. In addition, the chosen main work, ‘Gloria’ by Poulenc, is one which Richard was keen to see performed.

The second half, although remaining within the dedication to Richard, is a multi-media commemoration of the centenary of the start of World War 1. This features the works of Elgar together with drama and visual presentation.

I hope this will be of interest to some of Richard's hockey playing friends.

Tickets (£16 and £13 with concessions) are available on line at www.yorksphilchoir.co.uk or email or by telephoning 01924 364862.
