In December 2014, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) introduced changes to the Rules of Hockey designed to enhance the experience of players and spectators.  These have been available for worldwide adoption and effective at international level from 1st January 2015.
Following consultation with the England Hockey Rules & Regulations Advisory Group, National Programme Umpires Association and England Hockey League Committee, England Hockey can confirm that the rule changes announced by the FIH will be implemented in the Investec Women’s Hockey League (IWHL) and the NOW: Pensions Men’s Hockey League (NPMHL) when the outdoor season resumes at the end of January 2015.
The changes will also apply to the remaining three rounds in the Investec Women’s Cup and NOW: Pensions Men’s Cup, noting only IWHL/NPMHL teams remain in the competitions.
As previously advised these are the only domestic competitions where the new rules apply apart from permitting the use of new style face masks at all levels of the game which is introduced with immediate effect across the game.

As previously advised England Hockey will be consulting more widely with the hockey community as to whether we apply to FIH to opt out of the introduction of any of the new Rules for 2015-16 for the wider game and, if so, at what levels and/or age groups. A decision will be made on adoption of the new Rules after this consultation.
