Yorkshire and Humberside - New England Hockey Relationship Manager

Further to the email below (in "read the rest...") sent by Shelley Watts, I am pleased to report that I am now in post as the Relationship Manager for England Hockey, covering Yorkshire and Humberside. During the initial 3 months, my aim is to speak to as many of you in person, to learn more about hockey across the region and understand where successes have come and where areas of concern are being raised If you have any pressing matters, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Good morning all, I am writing to all the club chairpersons and Hockey association leaders to let you know that Gary Johnson will be joining us as the Yorkshire and Humberside Relationship Manager. He will join us from the 16th January 2017. Gary currently  works as Central College Nottingham as the Course Manager for BTEC sports. He also has extensive knowledge of developing Hockey in clubs and schools through his involvement of Hurricane Sports. Gary is also a coach developer and is involved in delivering a number of England Hockey CPD coaching courses. Gary will be joining us on a six month contract and he will focus on listening to clubs and following up on the great job Heather Douglas did with the “What makes a great club?” programme. His start date will also coincide with the new Club Mark launch. You might ask why is this a six month contract. We took the decision to offer this as a short term contract instead of replacing immediately as we are shortly coming up to the end of our current four year development cycle. We are currently in the process of applying for future investment and we are waiting to find out how much we have been able to secure for grass roots development from Sport England. We are hoping to hear the outcome within the next month or two. Given the circumstances, our aim is to understand what resources we have and then target how we can grow participation in the different areas. This information will help to shape the role which will be re-advertised after the short term contract is up. I appreciate that Gary’s start date is in January 2017 which is still a month away. We are covering the role with other team members such as Julie Longden (NW Relationship Manager), Elaina Leithead (Administrator) and additional support from the Clubs and Facilities team.
