Dear hockey friends,

This is the very sad news that we had all be dreading since Val let us know she was terminally ill just before Christmas.  I received a message yesterday that on Saturday evening, Val died peacefully at home with her family.  She was stubborn enough to continue living despite the dreadful illness for many more months than was expected but at least she is now at peace.  She will be missed not only by those who are proud to call themselves her friend, but also to the many, many who played with her, against her or who watched her display those wonderful skills on the pitch.  Such a star.

At this stage I know no more about funeral arrangements but these will be posted on The Hockey Museum website as soon as they are available – https://www.hockeymuseum.net/.  Cathy Harris is writing an obituary to go in The Times, so if you have any information, memories or stories that she might be interested in, please let her know at cjharris99@icloud.com.  The Hockey Museum will also be producing a video tribute along with an interview conducted a year ago, so please let me know of any tributes and stories you have.

Best wishes to you all
